Acoustic Unit Descriptions
Sound Pressure Level (dB SPL): Sound pressure level expressed in decibels, with a reference pressure of 20 micropascals.
Sound Power (W/dB SWL): Sound power is the total acoustic energy radiated by a sound source per unit time. dB SWL is the sound power level expressed in decibels.
Frequency (Hz/kHz): The number of vibrations per second of sound, 1 kHz = 1000 Hz.
🌡️ Speed of Sound Calculator
Calculate the speed of sound in air based on medium temperature
Speed of Sound Information
The propagation speed of sound in air is affected by temperature: the higher the temperature, the faster the speed of sound.
At 20°C, the speed of sound is approximately 343 meters/second. For every 1°C increase in temperature, the speed of sound increases by approximately 0.6 meters/second.
This formula applies to dry air at standard atmospheric pressure. Factors such as humidity also have a slight effect on the speed of sound.
